STATE OF OUR PARISH

 2020 TO THE PRESENT

 (Posted 8/15/2023)

Thessalonians 5:16,18 states: “Give thanks for everything.”

Gratitude is the recognition of all the blessings and graces in our life. It helps us become closer to God--the Source of all goodness. As a community of believers, we wish to express our gratitude as we reflect, acknowledge, and accept our worth to God and to one another--through this “State of Our Parish.”

All of us experienced the challenging effects of the recent pandemic. Gatherings for the celebration of the Holy Mass had to take place virtually. Luckily, we were allowed to cautiously gather, over time. It became increasingly evident that it was time to evaluate our pastoral direction and establish plans for our Parish’s future; thus, resulting in pastoral renewal.

To evaluate the state of our Parish, we deepened our knowledge through structured conversations with large groups of our Parishioners. Three major pastoral assemblies took place, starting in 2021.

1.  The first conversation (Sept 25, 2021) focused on “What kind of a parish do we want to be?” The outcome was that our new vision was articulated: “to become a communion of communities.”

2.  The second conversation (Nov 13, 2021), focused on “Where is our parish today?” It was an assessment of the issues and concerns that could block the realization of the vision of becoming “a communion of communities.”

3.  The third conversation (April 23, 2022) focused on “What strategies are needed to accomplish our vision?” Participants identified strategies to guide the Parish in the optimal direction.

Through common discernment and consensus building processes, the Parish’s pastoral roadmap was created, articulated in three goals:

1.    Building community and strengthening the awareness of our Parishioners about the ministries and services of Saint Raphael Parish,

2.    Improving participation and involvement of our Parishioners in the life and mission of the Church, and

3.    Strengthening the faith and spiritual life of our Saint Raphael Parishioners.

The Parish Pastoral Assembly not only resulted in the pastoral roadmap being ratified, but it was a holy event. The participants were motivated by improving the state of the Parish. It was an expression of gratitude, where all participants were able to the identify goodness and fortune of the Parish. In addition, it was an occasion where all experienced kindness and friendship of celebrating both the giftedness and the diversity of our Parish’s ethnic communities.

OUR BLESSINGS

Blessed by a committed and capable leadership team, giving their time, talent, and resources freely, our Parish can pursue its pastoral renewal program, following our pastoral roadmap.

We have generous benefactors and contributors, who readily share their resources to support the Parish, including helping with our Annual Appeal debt. We have experienced an increase in the number of volunteers who generously share their time and talents, that enable us to continue our varied programs and projects--leading to building and strengthening our community.

More of our young people are showing interest in the religious and spiritual life of the Saint Raphael Community. They are coming to Church and are joining Parish activities.

Increasingly, our Parishioners participate in our multicultural celebrations, especially when gathering around the table of the Lord and sharing the Eucharist. Members and leaders of our Parish’s ethnic ministries and organizations are participating in various committees: Liturgy and Worship, Communication, the Finance Council, and Parish Planning.

OUR HOPE

The season of hope is upon us. We ask for the grace of God to recognize that each one of us have received a special gift. We must use our gifts in serving one another, as good stewards of God’s grace. By serving others, we are serving God and showing our gratitude for His work in our life. We look forward to a more blessed Parish and our vision of a Communion of Communities.

ESTADO DE NUESTRA PARROQUIA

2020 AL PRESENTE

 (Posted 8/16/2023)

"Each of us is the result of a thought of God. Each of us is willed. Each of us is loved. Each of us is necessary."

- Benedict XVI
