Order of Christian Initiation of Adults

The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) is an eight-month religious formation process for adults who wish to join the Catholic Church either by receiving one of or all the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist -this will depend on what Sacraments have been received thus far. Participants examine their faith while learning about the Catholic tradition. Through weekly classes, weekly Mass, special liturgies and services, candidates examine and deepen their faith, while learning about the Catholic tradition.  OCIA begins each year in the fall and continues through May. Candidates for OCIA are typically received into the Catholic Church during the Easter Vigil Mass at the parish of where they underwent formation.

The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults is primarily a journey of faith through:

•    the stages of asking questions and seeking answers;

•    introduction and beginning to become involved within the Catholic Community;

•    listening and reflecting upon the Word of God proclaimed at liturgy;

•    study and reflection about the Catholic experience;

•    any doubts or hesitations;

•    discernment of God’s call;

•    the steps of commitment through the reception of the sacraments:

     Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist.
